Belly Binding
The belly binding is achieved by using a long strip of cloth to wrap around the abdomen from the hips to the rib cage. Your internal organs will return to their pre-pregnancy positions as your torso is supported from 360 degrees. It is customary for women to wrap as soon as possible after delivery, ideally on day five, and then worn for 40 days or longer as needed.
It is recommended that women wait at least 6 weeks before wrapping their incisions following a cesarean birth. The primary use of belly binding at this point is to provide postural support and alleviate low back pain during physical activity or baby wearing.
Women are advised to stop belly binding daily after 6 weeks to allow their muscles to rebuild and strengthen. The belly bind may be used occasionally with exercise to support diastases recti healing and postural support for babywearing or low back pain.
Bengkung belly binding is a tradition practiced in Malaysia.
