What We Are Not

What We Do Not Do

The DON’Ts of Doulas

While we are honored to support your pregnancy and birth journey, it’s important to understand the professional boundaries of a doula. Clear roles help foster trust, safety, and collaboration within your care team.
What We Don’t Do
  • We are not a substitute for a midwife, physician, or medical provider
  • We do not make decisions for you—our role is to support your informed choices
  • We do not push personal beliefs, agendas, or birth preferences
  • We do not create conflict with hospital staff—we work to bridge communication
  • We do not micromanage your birth or family experience
  • We are not healthcare practitioners and do not provide medical care
  • We do not:
    • Take vital signs
    • Perform fetal heart monitoring
    • Administer medications
    • Diagnose conditions
    • Deliver babies
  • We do not replace your partner or chosen support people (Unless you don’t have a dedicated support team).

Evidence-Informed Scope of Practice (DON’Ts)

Professional doula organizations emphasize that doulas:
  • Provide non-clinical support only
  • Do not perform medical or diagnostic tasks
  • Maintain ethical boundaries and client autonomy
  • Support—not replace—medical professionals or partners
  • Work collaboratively within the healthcare system
This clarity of role protects clients and ensures doulas remain a trusted, respected part of the birth team.

Our Heart Behind the Work

At Reclaiming Our Womb, we believe birth support is more than a service—it’s ministry, advocacy, and love in action. Our purpose is to walk beside you with humility, wisdom, and faith, honoring your voice and your womb every step of the way.
