The DOs of a Doula

At Reclaiming Our Womb Doula Services, we serve families with intention, compassion, and reverence for the sacred journey of birth. As trained birth professionals, we provide emotional, physical, spiritual, and informational support to expectant mothers and the childbearing family throughout pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period.
Our role is to offer continuous, nonjudgmental support, helping you feel grounded, informed, and empowered as you move through each phase of your journey.

What We Do

  • Create a calm, supportive, and peaceful birth environment
  • Provide comfort measures and emotional reassurance
  • Facilitate respectful communication between you and your care team
  • Share evidence-based information to support informed consent
  • Honor and respect the roles of nurses, midwives, and physicians
  • Encourage collaboration and healthy relationships within your birth team
  • Offer gentle guidance and encouragement to partners and support persons
  • Refer families to trusted specialists and community resources when needed
  • Serve with humility, compassion, and a servant’s heart

Evidence-Informed Doula Support (DOs)

Research and professional organizations recognize that doulas:
  • Provide continuous support, which improves birth satisfaction
  • Help reduce stress, fear, and anxiety during labor
  • Improve communication between birthing people and providers
  • Support informed decision-making without coercion
  • Enhance partner confidence and involvement
  • Promote a sense of safety, dignity, and emotional well-being
Studies summarized by ACOG and supported by DONA International and Lamaze show that continuous doula support is associated with lower intervention rates, shorter labors, and improved birth experiences.
